Butternut Squash (AKA: Butternut Pumpkin or Gramma Squash) is a winter squash with an elongated pear shape, usually weighing around 3 to 5 lbs. The bulb end has a seed compartment and the neck end is usually straight and is all flesh. The color is usually tan-pink with yellow or orange flesh. Butternut squash has a sweet buttery-nutty flavor and a dense creamy texture. Like most winter squash, the butternut has an excellent storage life of many months when stored properly, whole, in a cool, dry place.
