This week is all about wheatgrass and superfoods. When people think about eating healthy, they often focus on calorie counting and portion sizes, but we want to focus on the quality of the food being consumed instead. Healthy foods are less about numbers and categories and more so about balance. A healthy diet consists of a variety of foods that promote a healthy gut microbiome and are enjoyable to consume. That may sound like a lot to consider, and it is, but this can be achieved by utilizing antioxidant-rich and living foods that aid and improve digestion. Join us today to Sprout into better health!

Wheatgrass & Superfoods Challenge:

The health and wellness benefits of simple foods like wheatgrass and living foods are often overlooked. Foods known to have notably exceptional benefits, such as a high nutrient density, rich in antioxidants, and natural qualities that support good digestive health are known as superfoods. Living foods directly fall into this category with the added benefits of containing living enzymes that aid digestion and can help rejuvenate and heal a depleted digestive system. Living foods like wheatgrass have also been said to heal and support the body as it heals from and fights ailments, including cancer. When it comes to superfoods there is no shortage of knowledge to be gained! We can’t wait to hear about what you learn through this challenge.

1. Learn How to Grow Wheatgrass And Its Benefits

Growing wheatgrass is easy! All you need is some wheatgrass seed, trays, and a soil or hydroponic growing medium. Start by soaking the seeds for 4-8 hours. Then drain and spread over your prepared growing medium. We recommend using coco coir if you are growing wheatgrass for the first time. Cover the seeds with a damp paper towel or a thin layer of soil or coco coir. Then, water and monitor the growth. Check out the video below for the full growing instructions!

2. Learn About Superfoods and their Benefits

What are superfoods? They are most simply known as foods with a high nutrient density. They include things like berries that are revered for their incredible concentrations of antioxidants or fish that are known for their omega-3 fatty acids that help protect the heart. Superfoods can be found all around. Some of the most beneficial are also considered living foods, such as fermented kimchi, fresh sprouts, or vegetables just harvested from the garden. We would love to hear what you learn about superfoods and their benefits! Share your thoughts on your favorite social media networks and don’t forget to tag True Leaf Market.

3. Try A New Superfood

While you may be familiar with and love common superfoods like berries, leafy greens, or sprouts, there are likely a few superfoods that rarely make it to your plate. We challenge you to try something new! After learning about superfoods and their benefits, find new ways to integrate them into your daily meals.

4. Combine Good Habits for the Best Year Yet!

Sprouts, microgreens, wheatgrass, and superfoods can only get you so far. The act of building healthy habits is best done in tandem with other healthy lifestyle choices. Consider the ways you can support your new habits. For example, waking up early to get a headstart on the day is best done by also going to bed early. Expanding your knowledge and learning a new skill could go well with reducing your screen time. If your goal is to increase your daily movement, you may want to also consider increasing your water intake. Whatever it is that you are working towards, team up good habits up for greater success.
